This Powerpoint presentation is designed to help inform parents and educators about the realities of the Internet, both good and bad, and the many imprecise alternatives available for protecting children. For educators, please feel free to tailor the contents for your use. There are more than 80 slides in this presentation, and it very well encapsulates all of the issues and methods of mitigation. This presentation differentiates the needs of children by age, and discusses how parents can be liable from the children's online interactions. Some of the good and bad of COPPA are covered, and why parents and educators should not count on the law anytime soon. Different strategies of protection are discussed, including tips for locating the computer at home, and suggestions on how parents should behave toward things that their children discover at home, at their friend's house, and at school.
