ShadowFlare: Episode Two

ShadowFlare is a mission-based PC action/role-playing game that consists of 4 episodes. 

You start your journey in ShadowFlare as a hired mercenary working for gold, precious items, and fighting experience in a demon-ruled land. As you adventure through the vast ruins of what's left of the world, you'll deduce what happened and who's responsible for the devastation. Once you've reached a certain skill level in the game, you'll be able to choose a new profession for your character as a warrior, wizard/witch, or hunter.

ShadowFlare: Episode Two is available here as a downloadable file and on a CD-ROM. If you order Episode Two on a CD-ROM, it will include Episode One as well. 

You must have the ShadowFlare Episode One Version 2.001.000 installed before installing Episode Two. The version is displayed on the bottom right-hand corner of the initial screen after starting ShadowFlare.

When you download this file, do NOT directly download to "C:\Program Files\ShadowFlare", but download to a temporary folder such as "C:\SFTEMP2".

After the download has completed, you will extract AND setup the files, i.e. the installation will involve two steps.

The first step is to extract the downloaded self-extracting file (sf2.exe) to a temporary folder, and the second step is to actually setup the files to the program folder.

First, double-click the downloaded file (sf2.exe), and you will be asked for "Install Directory:". Do NOT specify "C:\Program Files\ShadowFlare" at this point. You may accept the current default folder, or specify a temporary folder such as "C:\SFTEMP2". Then the self-extracting file will create four temporary files: Data.sma, Setup.sma, SFSetup.exe and ReadMe.txt. Please read the ReadMe.txt file before you start the program. If you use Windows XP or Windows 2000, you must log on as an Administrator before you can setup ShadowFlare.

Second, run SFSetup.exe. The setup will detect where you have installed Episode One before, and will copy the files to the same folder that you have installed Episode One.

After the setup is complete, you can safely remove the temporary files (sf2.exe, Data.sma, Setup.sma, SFSetup.exe and ReadMe.txt) and folder you may have created to extract the setup files, i.e. "C:\SFTEMP2" in the above example. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. I am playing the demo version. I want to go to Cold Svalt Town, and a guard standing in front of the gate keeps saying "If you go further with your current abilities, you may die." What can I do now?

A1. That's the end of the demo version. To get into Cold Svalt Town and

other places, you must download and install Episode One.

Q2. Where can I find the version number of my copy of ShadowFlare?

A2. The version is displayed on the bottom right-hand corner of the initial screen after starting ShadowFlare.

It is displayed in a x.xxx.xxx format.

Q3. The network game mode isn't working. What's going on?

A3. There are several possible reasons for network mode errors and many are because of improper network environment settings.

Here are a few more common reasons for errors:

·Required TCP port is unavailable.

·Host has a private IP address.

·Condition of communication pathway is bad.

Since there are so many possible causes for network errors, it's hard for us to pinpoint the cause of an error in any specific case.

Q4. Is a global IP address required to play in network mode?

A4. It depends on your network environment and settings, but in many cases, private IP addresses can be used for clients (join a game) but not to host.

Q5. What port is used for playing in network mode?

A5. TCP port 12648 is used for ShadowFlare network mode.

Q6. Although I've entered the correct user ID and password on the website, I can't log in.

A6. A login error occurs when user the ID or password is wrong. If you entered the correct user ID and password and still cannot log in, try enabling cookies in your browser settings.

Q7. Can players that are using Episode 1 play in network mode with players that are using Episode 2?

A7. No. Players using different ShadowFlare versions or episodes cannot play in network mode together.

Q8. A dialog box that says "insufficient virtual memory" keeps popping up while I'm playing the game.

A8. This means that frequent memory swapping is occurring in your computer. We recommend increasing the amount of virtual memory by installing more main memory.
