PRESENTATION
The development project of TimeMap Java was conducted by the Archaeological Computing Laboratory of the University of Sydney and, its first version came out for the market, in 1999, and it's now a OpenSource product.
The TimeMap Java Win is a cartographic applet that has the capacity to generate interactive Cartography to be seen in a web browser with only some HTML programming lines.
Where it was only possible to offer and to distribute Cartography in a static way through a JPEG format, with this software it has became viable, to deliver the same Cartography with almost all the functionalities that a GIS software provides to the users.
The TimeMap Java has a first goal, to create Cartography embeded in HTML, and that can be published in Webpages, or in a CD or a DVD. The second goal, however the most important, in fact, that it represents the essence for what the program was created, it consists of the possibility of construction of cartographic animations.
